The red light originally was a idiot light for the kickstand. It is not hooked up on your year bike. The positions for the petcock are on, reserve and prime. Prime lets gas flow even if the engine is off. On and reserve only let gas flow when the engine is on. The petcock is vacuum operated. Hope this helps. KTRSD. John
